A call out to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander social workers
We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands, waters and skies across Australia. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and to emerging leaders. Sovereignty was never ceded.
We want to start this properly, so we are reaching out.
An advisory group, still to come
We aim to form a First Nations advisory group of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander social workers. It doesn't exist yet. The people who join it will set its terms and how it works.
The name may not be right
We use "First Nations" as a working term, and we know it may not be the right one. Many people prefer Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, or the name of their own nation or community. We welcome your feedback.
No artwork, on purpose
We haven't published any artwork. We want Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to lead this, including whether artwork is created, and by whom.

Social work in Australia has caused harm. Social workers took part in the removal of children that created the Stolen Generations, and in forced adoptions. The profession has said so in its own words, and we repeat it here.
Standing up for social work means standing with the people the profession has harmed, and being led by them on how to do better.
First Nations Advisory Group
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander social workers who review every campaign before launch and shape how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories are told. We're forming the group now.
